Warning signs you need diesel service

  Knocking from the engineDiesel knock that is louder or rougher than usual can mean low oil, worn bearings, or injectors that are no longer spraying properly. Get it in before something lets go.

  OverheatingA clear sign something is wrong in the cooling system or the engine is working harder than it should. On a diesel, heat does damage fast.

  Hard starting or excessive crankingOften glow plugs, a fuel delivery problem, or a weak battery in cold weather. Easy to test, easy to fix, miserable to be stuck with.

  Black, white, or blue exhaust smokeEach colour points at a different problem. Black is usually fuel or air, white is often unburned fuel or coolant, blue is oil. All three are worth diagnosing.

  Loss of power or poor fuel economyInjectors, turbo, or a clogged filter. If the truck is not pulling like it did, it is telling you something.
