Transmission

We handle both manual and automatic transmissions, from a routine fluid service through to internal repair and replacement. The first job is always the same: find out whether you are looking at a seal, a solenoid, low fluid, or the unit itself.

Left alone, a small transmission problem turns into a large one quickly, and it usually chooses the worst possible moment. Catch it early and the bill is a fraction of the size.

Signs it is time to have it looked at

  Reddish brown puddles under the vehicleThat is transmission fluid. You may also notice a distinct burning smell. Fluid leaks do real damage fast, so this one should not wait.

  Slipping gearsThe engine revs but the vehicle does not pull the way it should. Could be low fluid, worn clutch plates, or damaged synchronizers. All of them get worse.

  Hard, delayed, or clunky shiftsA shift that bangs into gear, or a long pause before it engages, means something in the hydraulic or electronic side is not doing its job.

  Strange noises in neutralWhining, humming, or clunking while the vehicle is sitting in neutral usually points at internal wear or a fluid problem.

  The transmission warning light is onThe most obvious sign, and the easiest to keep driving past. Do not.
